Avast Ultimate is a security program with an impressive detection rate and a variety of additional features. Its malware scanner scored an excellent score in my tests, and its web protection blocked a number of phishing websites that managed to get past Chrome and Firefox’s default security. Other features include the Rescue Disk and a secure browser for online banking and shopping. Advanced tracker blocking is also available.
The user interface of the suite is simple to navigate. Its main screen displays a list of its key tools with clear icons to explain their functions. The color scheme for Avast is orange, white, and blue. It’s easy to read and pleasing to the eye.
There are specific controls for each tool in the Explore menu. These include custom scans, boot time scanning, and an automatic updater. You can also save specific types of scans within the “Scan Center”, so you can run them again at a later date.
The advanced features of Avast can assist you to prevent ransomware by monitoring your PC for suspicious activity and encrypting any files that might have been targeted. It can even identify a trojan horse (a malicious program that slips into your computer disguised as legitimate software) and stop it from running on your system.
Avast provides 24/7 email, phone and live chat support. The free versions of the product are backed by a large knowledge base and community and paid plans come with advanced features like identity protection unlimited VPN, USB protection and patch management.
